Akhand Jyot

Description

Akhand Jyot refers to an uninterrupted, eternal flame that burns continuously throughout the duration of a religious event or festival, most notably during Navratri, Diwali, and Durga Pooja. The word “Akhand” means unbroken or eternal, and “Jyot” means flame or light—together, they represent a powerful symbol of unwavering devotion, divine protection, and spiritual strength.

Lighting an Akhand Jyot is a sacred ritual in Hindu tradition, believed to attract positive energy, ward off negativity, and create a deeply spiritual atmosphere in the home or temple. It is usually placed in a deepam (oil lamp) filled with ghee or sesame oil, and is maintained day and night without allowing the flame to extinguish.
